Five days in the Cote d’Azur

The French Riviera (known in French as the Côte d’Azur) is the Mediterranean coastline of the southeast corner of France. The French Riviera is a major yachting and cruising area with several marinas along its coast. Maarten and I wanted to get away for a few days in May to the sun, so we booked a flight to Nice with the idea in mind that we would enjoy the sun, eat as many croissants as possible and drive along the coast.

Day 1

We had a really nice hotel room in Villa 9, a bed and breakfast in Nice. The owners of the villa rent out 3 rooms that have that old french style and feel but with all the modern facilities. Our first day was a travel day and we explored the area around our accommodation.

Day 2

After a good night’s sleep, we ate some croissants in a boulangerie around the corner and picked up our convertible to drive towards Cannes. In Cannes the preparations for the Cannes Film Festival were in full swing, so we had lunch on the boulevard and enjoyed all the fuss. After some lunch, we walked around Cannes and ended the day on the beach.

Day 3

The alarm was set for 7:00 so we could arrive in St. Tropez before the end of the morning. The best part of this day was the road-trip in the city. We took the road along the beach and then into the mountains. Nothing feels better than the wind through your hair and the sun on your face, while you sing along with the music. St. Tropez has very nice shopping streets and an old port where the most beautiful yachts are docked. So this day was spent discussing which yacht we would like to buy and what our plan would be to get the money together. After St. Tropez drove to Cape Camarat, one of the region’s viewpoints. Followed by ice cream in Ramatuelle.

Day 4

Secretly our entire trip revolved around this day. Race day! We attended a Formula E race for the first time and what better place to do this than in Monaco?

Day 5

Our last day already, we flew back at the end of the morning so we had a nice breakfast in Nice and then went to the airport to fly back home!
