Hiking to Trolltunga

The adventure of Trolltunga is one of the stories I will remember forever. It started like this…a group of exchange students that rented a house for a weekend near Odda to relax and hike (we found the house through Airbnb).

One car got stuck because of a closed road and arrived a day later and the other group had just 4 hours to sleep and prepare for one of the toughest hikes in Norway. In the end it all worked out but we did experience all kinds of emotions in this weekend trip.

On the way to Odda we drove through the longest tunnel in the world. The tunnel in Lærdal is the longest tunnel in the world that you can drive through by car (24.51 km). A weird experience where you are in the dark for a long period of time and then immediately on a bridge.

I was with the group that would hike up to Trolltunga. So once arrived at the house we all went straight to bed. Trolltunga is one of the most spectacular cliffs in Norway. Trolltunga is 1100 meters above sea level and hovering 700 meters above lake Ringedalsvatnet.

To reach this cliff we hiked for 4 hours from Skjeggedal through the  mountains to the cliff and then 5 hours back. Trolltunga and return is 23 km in total and a long and hard hike. As with a lot of hikes it is discouraged to hike this trail in the autumn and winter. After all the blood, sweat and tears I can say I did it! I am just kidding, no tears or blood! Just very sensitive feet at the end of the hike.

But the hike was on friday so I still had a whole weekend to relax and we definitely did that, with games, food, a lot of laughter and relaxing in the jacuzzi.
