A quick stop in Phetchaburi

There is a very thin strip of land running towards the south, away from Bangkok and the large landmass above. With beaches, nature, malls and loads of activities the province Phetchaburi is a great place to take a break when travelling up or down the country.

The most known cities in the province are Changwat Phetchaburi, Hua Hin and Cha-am. A few of the cities we stopped in on our way to Kanchanaburi.

Phetchaburi

Phetchaburi, which means city of diamonds, remains one of these sleepy towns with charming town shops and some impressive temples.

North of the city, the Tham Khao Luang Cave is situated. It is a stalactite-stuffed cave that should be one of Thailand’s most impressive cave shrines (I don’t really agree). You can get some amazing pictures if the sun is right, though. You can easily get there by scooter or car. You can’t get up to the cave by your own transportation/ taxi/ Grab/ Uber. There are vans waiting to take you to the cave (100THB pp).

Hua Hin and Cha-am

These two beach towns are only half an hour apart from each other. If the weather allows it, enjoy the beach in one of these cities or the Black Mountain Water Park in Hua Hin. Unfortunately, we didn’t have this opportunity so we looked for alternatives.

  • Hua Hin Night Market is a definite recommendation, the atmosphere is amazing and it’s a really big market with all the restaurants just behind the stalls.
  • The Venezia Hua Hin felt like an abandoned attraction park in the time we visited. It’s funny to visit but should only be on your list if you have nothing to do. We did make some funny pictures in the 3D Art Gallery.
  • The floating market in Cha-am (Sam Phan Nam) is a structure built on water with local clothes and food. Definitely worth a visit.
