Visiting a museum is perfect if want to do something else than visiting the highlights of Prague.

National Museum

With a massive collection and frequently changing exhibitions, the National Museum is a must-see on your visit to Prague. The main building underwent a major reconstruction and reopened in October 2018 after a period of closure. The main building is connected to The New Building of the National Museum by an underground tunnel. The National Museum is not the only building that exhibits pieces. In addition, the Náprstek Museum, the Bedřich Smetana Museum, the Antonín Dvořák Museum and the Lapidarium are also part of the National Museum. Admission fee to the museum is CZK 200 for adults. The National Museum location is found here.

Museum of Decorative Arts In Prague

As the website of The Museum of Decorative Arts states: they collect “examples of historical and contemporary arts and crafts, applied arts and design, preserving them for future generations.” The museum compares European and Czech products. Thereby motivating local business and artisans to improve the quality of their work. Nowadays the museum has 5 branches (different buildings) that showcase its valuable collections. The main building is situated in the Old Town. Admission is CZK 300 for adults. Other branches that are part of The Museum of Decorative Arts are the; Central Depository, The House at the Black Madonna, Josef Sudek Gallery and the Kamenice Nad Lipou Chateau.

Jewish Museum in Prague

Probably one of the most visited museums in Prague, the Jewish Museum showcases the history of the Czech and Moravian Jewish community. The museum has permanent exhibitions, some of the buildings also hold concerts and you can find temporary exhibitions. The admission of CZK 500 to the museum is pricier than other museums but it includes entrance to also the Old New Synagogue, the Maisel Synagogue, the Old Jewish Cemetery, the Ceremonial Hall and the Robert Guttmann Gallery. The Jewish Museum is located at U Staré školy 141/1, 110 00 Staré Město, Czechia.

National Technical Museum

If you love airplanes, trains, cars and other vehicles and the history surrounding them this is the place to be. The museum shows all the different inventions that moved the world over time. Next to an exhibition about transport, you will also find exhibitions about astronomy, mining, chemistry, time and technology in toys. It is one of those museums where you can spend a whole day wandering from one topic to another. The admission fee is CZK 250.

Museum of Communism

A collection of artefacts, propaganda and multimedia exhibits that offer visitors a glimpse into Czechoslovak life under Communist rule from 1948 to 1989. I have not been here myself but the museum is featured as one of the must-sees by Lonely Planet, CNN and BBC. For 280 CZK you can get a glimpse into the daily life of people, politics, history, sports, economics, education and many more subjects during the communist rule. It lays close to the metro stop Náměstí Republiky, so easy to visit.

Beer Museum

Beer is cheaper than water in Prague. A quick stop at the beer museum can therefore not be missed during a visit to Prague. The museum can tell you more about the history of beer; how beer is made and of course you should try some of the beers. The museum has multiple locations; one at Smetanovo Nabrezi close by the river and Náměstí míru, and Dlouha 21 which are under construction.

There are so much more museums in Prague, but this is at least a start!
