Loser Panoramastrasse

Just a 30-minute car ride from Hallstatt lays the Loser Panoramastrasse which is part of the town and mountain Loser. The mountain is the most prominent landmark of the Ausseerland and in the winter part of a ski area. The ski lifts are closed during the summer season and cannot be used. However, you can reach the peak of the mountain by car using the toll road of 9 km. This is what we did when we visited in the summer. The toll rate in 2020 for a car was €18,00. You can check the rates of other vehicles here.

If you are a driving fan, the Loser Panoramastrasse is a perfect road to enjoy the scenery and at the same time test your mountain driving skills. The Loser Panoramastrasse is open between April and October/November depending on the weather. In the morning, the mountain is surrounded by clouds which will give you a spectacular view. If you visit, use of one of the two platforms to take pictures. The platforms are also used by parasailers, so I will recommend visiting in the morning.

Hiking

If you are up for more activities, the Loser area is also known for some awesome hikes that take you along amazing views and landscapes. The website of Loser Altausee describes the hikes based on views, difficulty and time and more:

  1. Loserfenster and Loser Summit
  2. Augustsee-Circular Trail
  3. From the Loser Thörl to the Loser Summit
  4. Bräuning Zinken (1899m)
  5. Tour around the Loser mountain, over Gschwandalm
