Visiting Burg Eltz
In the middle of the forest lies a castle that remained unscathed by wars. Burg Eltz is located in Wierschem, a municipality belonging to the Mayen-Koblenz district in the West German state of Rhineland-Palatinate. What sets Burg Eltz apart from most of Germany’s famous fairytale castles is that it’s not on a hilltop. The castle is enclosed by the green Eltz Forest.
Burg Eltz has a special history that dates back to the 9th century. The castle is now owned and maintained by the 33rd generation of the Eltz family. It has been owned and cared for by the same family from when it was built until today.
