The history of Kanchanaburi
Changwat Kanchanaburi is around 2 hours from Bangkok and 2,5 hours from Changwat Phetchaburi. Nowadays, Kanchanaburi is a modern city but the reminders of WWII remain.
Death Railway
Changwat Kanchanaburi is a historical city that hosts the infamous Burma Railway or better known as the Death Railway. Thousands of people have died here while building the railway under Japanese control as a prisoner of war. The Bridge over the River Kwai is the main attraction for many visitors and since the bridge is still used locally, it is possible to take one of the trains that cross the bridge every day. You can also cross the bridge by foot to the other side of the river.

River Kwai
We didn’t spend that much time in Kanchanaburi city because we had the most amazing hotel on the River Kwai in the Sai Yok National Park. Resort The Float House River Kwai is a hotel built on the waters of the River Kwai. The rooms are spacious cabins with their own veranda. We sunbathed and watched all the passing longboats.

Erawan National Park
The 12th National Park of Thailand is home to the Erawan Waterfall. The 7 tiers of the waterfall are stretched over 1.5 km and most of the tiers end in ponds perfect for swimming. The first tier of the waterfall is easy to overlook because it is quite near the beginning of the trail. The second waterfall is the biggest and wisest. Most people stop here to swim, take pictures and relax.

Not everyone goes into the ponds at the end of the waterfalls because there are a lot of fish that nibble at your feet. The nibbling feels a lot like tickling and is really weird. But don’t worry, as long as you move the fish will not come to you.
